Detroit Mounted Police http://www.hrousseau.com/Heather_Rousseau/Detroit_Mounted_Police.html A Stable Force The Detroit Mounted Police was founded in 1893 to corral loose farm animals. In its roughly 110 years of existence, about 600 officers have served with the Mounted Police. For years (Officers) patrolled the streets with (horses), doing what officers in cruisers do: chase bad guys, issue tickets and make arrests. The mounted force peaked in 1979 with 65 horses and 56 officers. Today there are only 18 horses and seven officers. It is evident from the way the horses are treated at the stable that the officers are deeply attached to them.
